Thank you for your interest in the role of Chief Medical Officer at Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust.
This is an exceptional opportunity to join a progressive, integrated organisation at a defining moment in our development.
Following the merger of Kingston Hospital and Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare in late 2024, we now deliver both acute and community services to diverse populations across South West London. Our progress has been underpinned by a strong sense of shared purpose, collaborative working, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, seamless care.
The context for this role is both challenging and rich with opportunity. The NHS 10-Year Plan, alongside the changing landscape of health and care in South West London, places us in a unique position to deliver high-quality, sustainable local healthcare.
As a Trust that brings together the strengths of a busy district general hospital with the agility and community focus of local services, we are well-placed to lead the way in neighbourhood health, delivering care closer to home, integrating services around our residents, and improving population outcomes.
We have entered a reset phase as an organisation, balancing immediate operational and financial pressures with a forward-looking programme of improvement. Throughout this, our focus remains firmly on innovation, partnership, and the long-term wellbeing of our communities.
We are now seeking a dynamic, compassionate, and forward-thinking clinical leader to help shape the next stage of our journey. As Chief Medical Officer, you will play a central role in defining our future, guiding the organisation through current challenges while helping us build a resilient, ambitious strategy for the years ahead. You will provide professional leadership to our medical workforce across both hospital and community services, strengthen clinical governance and patient safety, and champion excellence in clinical care and innovation.
A key part of your role will be to reinvigorate medical leadership at every level, cultivating an open, supportive culture in which clinicians and multidisciplinary teams are empowered to lead improvement. Our medical staff are talented, committed, and eager for visible, inspirational leadership; as Chief Medical Officer, you will be both their advocate and a catalyst for renewed pride, engagement, and shared purpose.
This is a broad and influential role reflecting our integrated status and our ambitions. You will oversee clinical quality, safety, and effectiveness across the full range of our services, ensuring that patients receive safe, compassionate care wherever they are treated.
You will lead our work in medical education, research, and innovation, nurturing the next generation of clinical talent and supporting advances such as digital health and new care models that can improve outcomes and patient experience.
Collaboration will be fundamental; as an executive leader, you will help shape our partnerships with primary care, social care, and the wider South West London Integrated Care System.
We will look to you to help build seamless care pathways, develop neighbourhood-based services, and provide clinical leadership to system-wide initiatives that address inequalities and enhance population health. This role is ideally suited to a medical leader with strong systems insight and the ability to drive meaningful change on the ground.
We welcome applications from candidates who bring clinical credibility, authentic leadership, and a genuine commitment to public service. You will have substantial experience of leading clinicians and improving care in a complex healthcare environment, alongside the ability to influence and inspire a wide range of stakeholders. You will be skilled at navigating complexity, capable of seeing the bigger strategic picture while keeping a clear focus on essential operational detail.
Most importantly, you will share our commitment to compassionate, inclusive leadership and continuous learning. You will help shape a culture that listens to its people, values their contributions, learns from feedback, and always puts patients first.
We are an ambitious, stable, and values-driven organisation. Our Board is united behind a clear vision, and our relationships with staff, partners, and communities are strong. We are proud of our longstanding record of high-quality care and innovation, and of the dedication shown by our people. This is a compelling opportunity to join a high-performing executive team with a strong foundation, helping us realise the full benefits of integration and make a lasting difference for the populations we serve.
Thank you once again for your interest. I look forward to hearing from you and hope you share our passion for improving the health and wellbeing of our communities.
Yours sincerely,
Jo Farrar
