Chief Financial Officer, South Yorkshire ICB

Chief Financial Officer,

South Yorkshire ICB

United Kingdom

NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board is a statutory NHS organisation, formed in response to the Health and Care Act 2022, responsible for securing healthcare provision for the 1.4m population of South Yorkshire. Our core responsibility is to develop a plan to meet the health needs of the population, manage the NHS budget and arrange for the provision of health services in the Integrated Care System area.

Across Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield we work alongside our local councils, our voluntary, community and social enterprises sector and other partners to address health inequalities and wider determinants of health.

  • Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the role of Chief Financial Officer for NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board.

This is a significant opportunity to play a central role in shaping the future of health and care for a weighted population of 1.6 million people across South Yorkshire. At a time of continued pressure and transformation across the NHS, we are seeking a Chief Financial Officer who will provide clear, values-led financial and executive leadership, supporting the system to improve outcomes, tackle inequalities, improve population wellbeing and ensure the sustainable use of public resources.

NHS South Yorkshire sits at the heart of a maturing integrated care system, working closely with local authorities, the Mayoral Combined Authority, providers, primary care, and the voluntary and community sector. Together, we are focused on improving population health, delivering consistently high-quality services, enhancing productivity and value for the £4 billion we spend, and contributing to the wider social and economic wellbeing of our communities.

The role of Chief Financial Officer is pivotal to achieving these ambitions. As a member of the unitary board, you will share collective responsibility for the strategic direction of the organisation, ensuring that resources are planned and deployed effectively to deliver the four core purposes of integrated care systems. You will lead the development and delivery of a robust financial strategy, ensuring that the ICB meets its statutory financial duties while supporting long-term transformation and improved outcomes for our population.

This is both an organisational and system leadership role. As the strategic financial lead, you will work collaboratively across the integrated care system to align resources with population need, support innovation and service redesign, and drive improvements in productivity and value. You will play a key role in influencing partners, shaping commissioning decisions, and ensuring that financial considerations support, rather than constrain, better care and reduced inequalities.

You will also provide strong stewardship of public funds, ensuring robust governance, transparency and accountability. This includes overseeing financial planning, reporting and control, maintaining financial balance, and supporting a culture of probity and openness across the organisation. Alongside this, you will lead and develop a high-performing finance function, fostering a culture of inclusion, professionalism and continuous improvement.

As with all senior roles within NHS South Yorkshire, this position goes beyond technical expertise. We are looking for a leader who will build trusted relationships across a complex system, someone who can work with partners to navigate difficult decisions, manage risk, and deliver sustainable change. You will bring a strong commitment to the values of the NHS, with a clear focus on improving outcomes and addressing health inequalities for all communities.

South Yorkshire is uniquely placed to drive innovation and integration at scale, including through its close alignment with regional leadership. This creates real opportunity to take a whole-system approach to population health, prevention and the wider determinants of health. As Chief Financial Officer, you will be at the centre of this work, helping to shape how resources are used to deliver lasting impact.

This is a pivotal moment for our system. The challenges are considerable, but so too is the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of the people we serve. We are committed to building a leadership team that reflects the diversity of our communities and welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds and experiences.

We look forward to learning more about what you could bring to this role and to NHS South Yorkshire, and we encourage you to explore this opportunity further with our partners at Alumni Global.
