Dear Candidate
Thank you for your interest in becoming a Non-Executive Director and Audit and Risk Committee Chair at Sheffield Health Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust.
Situated at the heart of the UK, Sheffield benefits from strong national connectivity and a rich industrial and cultural heritage. With a population of around 600,000, it is one of the largest cities in the UK and the greenest in Europe.
SHPU is seeking an experienced, thoughtful and values-led individual to join its Board. This is an important time for the Trust, as it continues to develop a community-focused approach, deliver sustainable services and improve the quality and inclusivity of care for its diverse population.
As a Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee, you will play a key role in supporting the Board in maintaining high standards of governance, assurance and accountability. The role requires the ability to operate at a strategic level while also applying appropriate scrutiny to matters of financial reporting, risk management and internal control.
We are particularly interested in candidates with strong financial experience, a financial qualification and relevant professional registration, combined with sound understanding of complex organisations, ideally within the NHS (or wider public sector). The ability to review and interpret financial information, provide constructive challenge and support robust decision-making will be important.
This is a Non-Executive position and, as such, you will be expected to work collaboratively as part of a unitary Board. You will contribute to the development of strategy, support and challenge the executive team, and uphold the principles of good governance. Alongside this, you will bring attention to detail where required, particularly in your role as Audit and Risk Committee Chair.
Non-Executive Directors at SHPU are expected to demonstrate commitment to inclusive and compassionate leadership, engaging collegiality with staff, service users and partners across the system, in a way which aligns with our values:
We are respectful and kind
We are inclusive
We work together
We keep improving
The Trust works closely with a range of partners including NHS organisations, local authorities, the voluntary and community sector, and academic institutions. The ability to build effective working relationships and contribute to system-wide thinking will be important.
We encourage you to have an informal and confidential discussion with Simon Green or David Heaton at Alumni Global to explore the role further.
We are committed to ensuring our Board reflects the communities we serve and welcome applications from a wide range of backgrounds. The time commitment is approximately one day per week worked flexibly across the month.
Thank you for considering this opportunity. I encourage you to connect with our partners Simon Green and David Heaton at Alumni Global, for a confidential conversation to explore the role in more detail.
Yours sincerely,
Sharon Mays
