EEAST is made up of exceptional people delivering outstanding care, every hour of every day. Whether it’s on the frontline or behind the scenes, no two days are ever the same and every role helps save lives.
A rewarding and fast-paced environment
Working at EEAST gives you the chance to support your community, provide life-saving care and help people through their darkest moments. It’s a busy, dynamic environment that brings fresh challenges every day.
Working in the east of England
Our Trust provides emergency and non-emergency care to patients in the east of England covering the six counties of Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire.
You get to work in one of the most diverse areas of the country; the bustling capital city is on our doorstep and the bracing North Sea envelopes our shores to the east.
We've got historical cathedral towns and cities, brand new communities, rural broadlands and some of the busiest arteries of road and rail networks, including the M25, A14, M1, M11 and A12, and railway lines from London Liverpool Street out to Cambridge, Norwich, Peterborough, Colchester and Southend.
Wherever you go in the east of England there is always something to see and do; but if travelling around the UK and beyond is a must for you as well, the Luton, Stansted, Norwich and Southend airports couldn't make it more easier to stay in touch with loved ones or send you on a deserved holiday or short break.

Dear Candidate
Thank you for your interest in the role of Company Secretary at the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust. I am pleased that you are considering joining us in this important and influential position.
EEAST operates across six counties, serving a population of around 6.2m. Our staff and volunteers deliver urgent and emergency care in complex and often challenging circumstances, and the quality of our governance and assurance arrangements is fundamental to enabling them to do so safely and effectively. Strong corporate governance is not a technical exercise alone. It underpins patient safety, financial sustainability and public confidence.
We have set a clear strategic direction for 2025 to 2030, with a focus on quality, performance, partnership and productivity. Delivering against that strategy requires robust assurance, clear risk management and effective Board oversight. The Company Secretary plays a central role in ensuring that our governance framework supports informed decision making and constructive challenge at Board and committee level.
Working directly with our Director of Strategy, Transformation and Governance, you will also partner closely with the Chair, Chief Executive and wider Board. You will act as a trusted adviser, ensuring that our governance arrangements are compliant, proportionate and continuously improving. You will help to align strategy, risk, performance and assurance into a coherent narrative for the Board, supporting what we often refer to as a single version of the truth.
The role demands credibility, confidence and discretion. You will be required to operate in a context of scrutiny and competing priorities, providing balanced and pragmatic advice on complex issues. At the same time, you will lead and develop the Governance and Risk team, fostering high standards, clarity and professionalism in all that we do.
We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, and to building a culture where colleagues feel valued and heard. Governance should reinforce those values, not simply regulate them. I am keen to appoint a Company Secretary who understands that effective governance is an enabler of good care and good culture, not an end in itself.
If you are motivated by public service and believe you can help us strengthen and mature our governance arrangements in support of our strategic ambitions, I look forward to meeting you during the process.
Yours sincerely
Dr Hein Scheffer
Director of Strategy, Transformation and Governance
