Richard Scolyer Chair of Brain Cancer Research, Chris O’Brien Lifehouse

The Richard Scolyer Professorial Chair will lead the development of a comprehensive program of translational brain cancer research at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. Established with $5.9 million in Australian Government funding over five years, the Chair represents a significant commitment to improving understanding of adult brain cancer biology, improving survival and improving quality of life for people affected by brain cancer.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding clinician-scientist with an established or emerging international reputation in brain cancer research and a strong commitment to translating research discoveries into new therapeutic approaches, clinical trials and improvements in clinical practice.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to maintain an appropriate clinical practice relevant to their specialty, with clinical arrangements developed according to the requirements of the appointment.

 
 

About Chris O’Brien Lifehouse

Chris O’Brien Lifehouse is a comprehensive cancer centre with research embedded alongside clinical care. Through the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse Research Institute, research spans discovery science, translational research, clinical trials and real-world cancer outcomes, with a strong focus on translating scientific discovery into improvements in treatment and clinical practice.

The Chair will work within a highly collaborative environment encompassing Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, the University of Sydney and Sydney Local Health District, with access to significant clinical and research infrastructure. This includes the Sydney Brain Tumour Bank, tumour modelling and ex-vivo drug screening capabilities, clinical trials and real-world cancer outcomes programs, together with established national brain cancer research networks.
