CHEO is recruiting for the Medical Director and Division Chief of the Division of Emergency Medicine. This Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) physician will oversee clinical care and the academic mission of the Division of Emergency Medicine within the Department of Pediatrics.
The Division of Emergency Medicine is a well-established, diverse and collaborative group that provides clinical excellence in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. CHEO is the referral center for children and youth in Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec as well as some areas of Northern Ontario and Nunavut. We are the regional Pediatric level 1 trauma centre, sexual assault treatment centre and schedule 1 mental health facility. Our department has ~70,000 annual visits/year, which makes it one of the higher volume pediatric emergency departments.
The Medical Director and Division Chief oversees the safety and quality of care provided and the medical staff within the division. The Division Chief also has responsibility for the administrative and academic activity of the division. In a dyad model in collaboration with their operational leader, the Medical Director is responsible for the ongoing evaluation, design and implementation of clinical delivery processes to provide excellence in acute care responsive to child and youth health needs.
Members of our group are academic leaders within CHEO, the University of Ottawa, and the national PEM community. The PEM faculty is dedicated to excellence in medical education, and we are leaders in PEM teaching, simulation, and ultrasound. Our PEM researchers are recognized nationally and internationally, working within a well-established research infrastructure as part of the CHEO Research Institute. We offer a supportive environment for PEM staff physicians to consolidate their clinical expertise while building an academic focus in the presence of strong mentorship.
The Division provides Pediatric Emergency Medicine education to residents from Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, etc. as well as medical students from the University of Ottawa. We have an outstanding PEM specialty training program with a long history of academic excellence. We also offer clinical fellowships in Medical Education/Simulation and Emergency Point of Care Ultrasound.
