CHEO is recruiting a Department Chief and full-time pediatric anesthesiologist to actively lead clinical care, teaching and research in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.

As one of 8 CHEO Medical Department Chiefs, the Chief of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine is a key medical leader within the organization. The successful candidate will oversee the quality and safety of clinical care provided by the Department, and as Co-Medical Director of Perioperative Services will work in close collaboration with the Chief of Surgery and the Director of perioperative services to co-lead the clinical Perioperative Services Patient Care leadership Team (PCLT) and participate in the CHEO led regional surgical program that utilizes operating room capacity in the region to reduce surgical wait times and deliver care closer to home.

    Our next Chief, Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine will join CHEO to provide vision and leadership through this remarkable period. The position is in Ottawa — Canada’s capital, and a beautiful, affordable city in the heart of some of the country’s most treasured landscape.

    As one of the eight medical department chiefs at CHEO, the Chief of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine holds an important role as a key medical leader within our organization. In this position, you will oversee the quality and safety of clinical care provided by the department. Additionally, as the Co-Medical Director of Perioperative Services, you will work closely with the Chief of Surgery and the Director of perioperative services, co-leading the clinical Perioperative Services Patient Care Leadership Team (PCLT).

    Currently, the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine consists of 21 anesthesiologists and one pediatric anesthesia fellows. Our dedicated team of anesthesia assistants affiliated with the department provides on-call coverage. Moreover, the department is an integral part of the University of Ottawa's Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certified residency program in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. We also run a Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship program, offering excellent educational opportunities.

  • Every year CHEO helps more than 500,000 children and youth from Eastern Ontario, western Quebec, Nunavut, and Northern Ontario. We do so through the commitment of our medical staff and faculty members whether it be on the front line of our clinical care or through our academic endeavors.
