Clinical Director of Emergency Care Services
The Clinical Director of Emergency Medicine Services provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality, person-centred emergency care. This role is responsible for aligning departmental performance with organisational goals, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement, and leading a multidisciplinary team in a dynamic healthcare environment.
The Clinical Director reports operationally to the Executive General Manager of Emergency and Specialty Services, professionally to the Chief Medical Officer and on day to day matters to the Executive Director of Emergency Care Services.

The Emergency Care Services Clinical Business Unit (CBU) oversees the provision of emergency services within the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Services. The CBU sits within the Emergency and Specialty Services Division, alongside Allied Health and Rehabilitation Services, Mental Health and Specialist Services, Women, Newborn and Children’s Services and Adult Outpatients.
About Gold Coast University Hospital
GCUH is one of Queensland’s largest clinical teaching and research facilities.
Since opening in 2013, the emergency department has become the busiest in Australia.
In financial year 2024/25 over 124,000 presentations were treated at GCUH. This was an average of 342 per day.
On average 108 ambulances arrive per day. A newly expanded triage area has helped optimise available space, and support patient handovers.
Innovative clinical models of care, (such as for timely treatment of Category 2 presentations with chest pain, or extension of operating hours for the attached Minor Injuries and Illness Clinic ) have helped patient care outcomes.
In Financial year 2024/25, 30% of presentations were higher acuity Category 1 or 2.
About Robina Hospital and Tugun Satellite Health Centre
Robina is the second largest emergency department on the Gold Coast.
In financial year 2024/25 over 71,500 presentations were treated at Robina. This was up 9.6% on the previous year, and represented a daily average of 196 presentations per day.
In 2024 Robina Emergency Department capacity increased following a 20-bed extension. This supported capacity for patient care within context of significant presentation growth.
On average 79 ambulances arrive per day. A newly expanded triage area has helped optimise available space, and support patient handovers.
Tugun Minor Injury and Illness Clinic provides a community based is located in a nearby Satellite Health Centre. In Financial year 2024/25, over 23,700 presentations were treated at the clinic.
In Financial year 2024/25, 24% of presentations were higher acuity Category 1 or 2.
Robina has a strong focus on adult and elderly care with 46% of presentations within the age range of 26-65 years and 27% being 65 plus years, aligning with population growth and aging trends in its region.
