Frank McKenna is Global Managing Director for Healthcare at Alumni Global, advising on executive search and board development across healthcare and higher education internationally. He leads Alumni Global's international healthcare and higher education services from London, appointing CEOs, Chairs and senior clinical leaders across international health systems.
Bio
Frank is the Global Managing Director of our Healthcare practice. With a career spanning government, professional services, and healthcare leadership, he brings a wealth of experience in executive search and board development and healthcare policy.
After a degree in History and Philosophy, Frank began his career at the UK Department of Education & Science, where he worked in policy development for the national examination system. He then spent over a decade at the British Medical Association (BMA) in senior management roles, including Head of Negotiations & Policy for the UK’s 40,000 General Practitioners and Head of Private Practice & Professional Fees. In these roles, he was responsible for national negotiations with government departments, the legal profession, private medical insurance industry and commercial sector employers on behalf of 140,000 UK doctors. Frank’s tenure at the BMA culminated in four years leading industrial relations and employment representation for doctors across the London region, handling contractual, legal, and disciplinary matters.
Following his time at the BMA, Frank served as Executive Director of Human Resources, Communications & Organisational Development at two leading University Hospitals in London under the UK National Health Service (NHS). He joined Alumni Global in 2006.
Frank’s deep expertise in healthcare policy, negotiations, and executive search and development has given him substantial global experience in appointing CEOs, Chairs, and Board-level Executives, as well as senior clinical academic and medical leaders, across a wide range of international health systems. His work spans Canada, Europe, Australia & New Zealand, Europe, and the GCC/Middle East regions.
A Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, Frank also served as External Governance Advisor to the Royal College of Nursing—Europe’s largest professional membership body—from 2011 to 2017. He is the Author of The GPs Guide to Professional and Private Work outside the NHS (Radcliffe Medical Press, 1996).
