Dear Candidate
Thank you for expressing an interest in this important role.
Milton Keynes University Hospital is looking for a Non-Executive to work with me, the Board of Directors and the Council of Governors as we move into the next phase of our development and continue to drive transformation across health and care with our partners.
This appointment comes at a significant moment for the Trust. MKUH is continuing to grow in scale, ambition and impact, and sustained change and transformation will be central to this next phase of our journey. This is where your contribution may come in.
We are keen to meet candidates who bring current or recent experience of leading change and transformation in complex, large scale organisations, whether in the public or private sector, and who understand the realities of improving performance, shaping culture and supporting organisations through periods of pressure and progress.
You are likely to be someone who relishes delivery in a fast paced and innovative environment and who brings intelligent, inclusive and compassionate leadership, ambition, technical credibility from your professional background, alongside curiosity and sound judgement. Just as importantly, you will understand how Boards support and offer challenge to Executives working in highly pressurised settings and how to help create the conditions in which staff, patient services and partnerships can thrive.
MKUH continues to develop its digital agenda. The organisation has supported the move to remote outpatient appointments, continues to expand the functionality of its EPR system and is developing the MyCare patient app. We have ambitious plans to become a truly paperless organisation and to continually upgrade our IT estate so that staff are equipped to work flexibly and effectively.
We work closely with partners across the local and regional health economy, including healthcare providers, universities, councils and third sector organisations. We play an active part in the Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care System and in the Milton Keynes Place partnership, helping shape services for the communities we serve.
In May 2023, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care confirmed funding for a new Women’s and Children’s Hospital with additional surgical capacity as part of the national New Hospital Programme. We are using this as an opportunity not simply to build, but to transform how we see and treat patients and how services are designed for the future.
We have a strong reputation for listening to and empowering our staff and we work hard to attract and retain the right people. We are continuing to invest in culture, leadership capability and staff experience, and would particularly welcome candidates who have played a role in shaping culture, leading organisational change and supporting teams through growth, challenge and transformation.
Diversity and inclusion is important to us and we are working to ensure our workforce reflects the diversity of the population we serve at every level of seniority and across all professions and roles.
You will join a welcoming leadership team made up of experienced directors and first time Board post holders. Our values, We Care, We Communicate, We Collaborate and We Contribute, are important to us and will resonate with you.
MKUH is located in the heart of one of the fastest growing cities in the UK. Milton Keynes has excellent transport links and offers the amenities of a vibrant town while being surrounded by accessible green spaces, a wide range of housing and excellent schools across the town and nearby Buckinghamshire villages.
I hope you find this opportunity and MKUH an exciting and meaningful prospect to explore.
