Boardroom insights from across the globe

Alumni has over the last seven years annually surveyed boards internationally to understand how boards’ agendas are changing and what impacts effectiveness in the boardroom. Last year, we published our report just before the COVID-19 breakout, many of us agree that it feels like a lifetime ago. But how much has the last year really impacted the boards’ agenda?

The last year has felt different, not least because we’ve all met via Teams or Zoom rather than in person. But a finding from our many conversations with Chairs and NEDs in the past six months, is that the board agenda returned to some kind of normal after the summer with one exception: risk management. In the last few years, risk has been trumped by other topics when it comes to increasing board focus. But in our experience, the way boards define, gauge, and manage risk has changed in the last year. The “risk topic” is of course very broad and includes everything from financial regulations and cyber security to succession readiness, and – nowadays – pandemics.

We are currently in the final stages of our Board Research 2021 where we ask board members across this globe to share their experiences of the last year and how they look to the future. If you are a board member, and have not already answered our questionnaire, we sincerely appreciate if you can take the time contribute to our research.

Take part in this year’s board International Board Survey.

Please feel free to get in touch if you have questions about our survey or any more general questions about our board services.
