IM Swedish Development Partner

Lund, Sweden

IM Swedish Development Partner (IM) is seeking a bold and visionary leader, deeply committed to value-based leadership, to guide the organization through a transformative phase. Are you ready to lead IM into the future, building on its strong foundations and fostering its positive global influence?

Please email us your application and attach your CV by clicking on the apply button below.

IM is a feminist and anti-racist membership organization, established in 1938, and one of Sweden's oldest civil society organizations. Dedicated to combating poverty and social exclusion, IM works globally and locally in partnership with a diverse range of actors to empower individuals and communities to drive sustainable change. Guided by its core values—dare, trust, passion, and relevance—IM strives to create a just and compassionate world.

IM’s uniqueness lies in its dual focus: a strong membership base of approximately 6,500 members and a dedicated volunteer network advancing inclusion, anti-racism, and democracy in Sweden, combined with development cooperation in five global regions funded by private donations. Since 2015, IM has been a trusted Sida partner, with collaborations stretching back many more years.

As Secretary General, you will play a central role in shaping IM’s strategy, advancing its advocacy for human rights, and ensuring operational excellence. You will collaborate closely with self-managed teams and work in partnership with a dedicated board of directors to achieve transformative outcomes. This position offers a unique opportunity to lead a purpose-driven organization through an exciting phase of transformation.

You will make an impact by:

  • Ensuring the effectiveness of IM’s activities and driving meaningful impact for rights-holders, contributing to societal change and progress toward IM’s vision of a just and compassionate world.

  • Providing thoughtful and feminist leadership while fostering organizational development with a focus on self-leadership and effective change management.

  • Collaborating on strategies to ensure financial sustainability through diversified funding streams, including private donations, international grants, and public financing.

  • Strengthening connections between IM’s members, volunteers, and global operational activities.

  • Representing IM as a prominent voice for social justice, both nationally and internationally.

  • Fostering an inclusive organizational culture firmly rooted in feminist and anti-racist principles.

Who You Are
To thrive in this role, you are a thoughtful and results-oriented leader who navigates complex and value-driven environments with confidence and care. You are passionate about creating impact and building a culture where inclusivity, courage, and collaboration are central. You communicate a clear vision and empower diverse teams, fostering collaboration and effectively guiding them through change. A strong relationship builder, you engage confidently with stakeholders, driving progress toward IM’s mission of a just and compassionate world. Your leadership reflects a commitment to feminist and anti-racist values, evident in both your strategic decisions and everyday actions.

You bring:

  • Proven experience in strategic leadership, preferably in organizations aligned with social impact and strong values.

  • An inclusive and feminist leadership style, with experience guiding transformative change.

  • Experience working with or, preferably, reporting to a board of directors, combined with an understanding of democratic membership structures.

  • Proficiency in Swedish and English, with the ability to work effectively in both languages, in both written and spoken forms. Additional language skills are a plus.

  • A strong understanding of diverse fundraising and revenue models, with experience contributing to or supporting initiatives that secure long-term financial sustainability.

  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, enabling you to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders and create strong, trust-based partnerships.

  • Experience working internationally with diverse partners and contexts, contributing to a global perspective in your leadership.
